Hannibal was thankfully spared from seeing his city destroyed by his enemy, Rome. The city was totally destroyed, its population killed or enslaved and not one Carthaginian brick was left on top of another by the Roman invaders.

Hannibal is often regarded as one of the greatest military tacticians and strategists in history and one of the greatest generals of antiquity. This is the original artwork for illustration on p 18 of Look and Learn issue no 928 (3 November 1979).
