This is the original Gouache painting by Philip Simmonds.

This is the original art used for the dust jacket of the boys adventure novel "In the Mahdi's Grasp" by George Manville Fenn, published in 1942 by Dean & Co. It is very rare for book cover art of this period to have survived. In beautiful condition.
