This is the unique original Pen & Ink Wash by Angus McBride.

This painting shows the fate of HMS Natal, a 13.500 ton British cruiser. On December 30th 1915 when moored in Cromarty Firth she suffered a series of explosions below decks. Almost the full company of over 700 officers and men were on board. Only 283 who were rescued many subsequently died of their wounds.

At the official enquiry it could not be determined exactly what caused the terrible catastrophe.

The original pen and ink and wash painting used to illustrate a series of articles on sea disasters in the magazine Look and Learn in 1970.
