Signed by artist bottom leftThis is the Signed unique original Pen & Ink Wash by Cecil Doughty.
A vibrant depiction of an Anglo-Saxon feast, complete with bard, hunting dogs, shields hanging from the walls and of course the maidens bringing wine.
Two men fight over a horn vessel much to the annoyance of one man at the feast, but a boy bringing wood for the fire seems keen to learn the ways of the adults.
This pen and ink wash has been finished with white painted highlights as well as streaks of charcoal especially to the top of the Longhouse. Doughty uses these techniques to convey a sense of mood and smoke inside the lodge.
This is a marvellous large signed piece by Doughty which has unfortunately sustained a bent-over corner to the bottom right and this is reflected in the price.
