This is the unique original Watercolour painting by Ralph Bruce.

George Frideric Handel 23 February 1685 - 14 April 1759) was a German-born, British Baroque composer famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems and organ concertos.

Handel received critical training in Halle, Hamburg and Italy before settling in London in 1712, and became a naturalized British subject in 1727.

He was strongly influenced both by the great composers of the Italian Baroque and the middle-German polyphonic choral tradition.

The lower picture shows him demanding that the famous singer Cuzzoni sing what he had written, not whatever she liked.

The upper picture is a reminder that he dedicated The Water Music to his former employer George I who Handel worked for when he was still Elector of Hanover.

NOTE the art is two cut out panels remounted. Originally part of the history of opera series in 1968 re-used in Look and Learn #1031 12 December 1981.
